- Sunflower seed oil ethyl ferulate esters are made by reacting oil pressed from the seeds of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus) with ethyl ferulate, an ester of ferulic acid. In cosmetic products they soften the skin, help keep oil-and-water mixtures stable, absorb ultraviolet light, lighten skin or hair tone, and help protect the formula from oxidation.
