- Porphyridium polysaccharide hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride is a complex sugar obtained from the red microalga Porphyridium, chemically modified to carry a positive charge. It is used in cosmetic products to help hold moisture in the skin, to form a protective layer on the skin, to slow spoilage caused by oxygen and to reduce the growth of micro-organisms.
