- Linolenic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid, also known as alpha-linolenic acid, that occurs naturally in plant oils such as flaxseed and canola. In cosmetics it is used as a skin- and hair-conditioning agent, as an emollient, and in surfactant, cleansing, antistatic and perfuming roles within formulations.
